Pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (P-5-P) is the active coenzyme form of vitamin B6 that is directly utilized by the body. P-5-P plays an important role in amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter production, and a variety of other metabolic reactions such as the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.† Magnesium is included to assist vitamin B6 metabolism. In addition, these two nutrients are frequently found as cofactors for the same enzymes.
