B. lactis is an important colonizing microorganism that produces large amounts of formate which favors beneficial microbiota and supplementation with this species has showm to be beneficial in supporting bowel regularity.^† It has profound effects on the immune system enhancing white blood cell activities as well as increasing numbers of total, helper, and activated T cells.^† The probiotic species in Vital-Plex® synergistically produce butyrate, acetate, lactate, and formate, lowering the pH of intestinal contents and inhibiting the growth of undesirable bacteria and yeast.^† Vital-Plex® probiotics produce B vitamins and enhance nutrient and mineral absorption. Together they stimulate gastrointestinal and systemic immune system function and provide support for people with occasional digestive distress.^†
